- English version
A dramatic game of political intrigue and betrayal set in 1930's Germany.
The year is 1932. The place is pre-WWII Germany. In Secret Hitler, players are German politicians attempting to hold a fragile Liberal government together and stem the rising tide of Fascism. Watch out though—there are secret Fascists among you, and one player is Secret Hitler.
Designed by Max Temkin of Cards Against Humanity, Secret Hitler is a social deduction game for 5-10 people about finding and stopping the Secret Hitler.
Players are secretly divided into two teams: the liberals, who have a majority, and the fascists, who are hidden to everyone but each other. If the liberals can learn to trust each other, they have enough votes to control the elections and save the day. But the fascists will say whatever it takes to get elected, advance their agenda, and win the game.
The standard edition is identical to the edition of Secret Hitler that shipped to Kickstarter backers in 2016, including foil inlays on the boards and wooden placards for the Chancellor and President.
In Secret Hitler, each player is randomly assigned to be a liberal or a fascist, and one player is Secret Hitler. The fascists know in advance who Hitler is, but Hitler doesn’t know who his fellow fascists are, and the liberals don’t know who anyone is. Since the liberal team always has a majority, the fascists must play like moles, gaining the trust of the liberals to sabotage their plans and make them suspicious of each other.
The objective of the liberal team is to pass 5 liberal policies or assassinate Secret Hitler. The objective of the fascist team is to pass 6 fascist policies or elect Secret Hitler chancellor after 3 fascist policies have passed.
Each round, the President selects a Chancellor. The whole table votes “Ja!” or “Nein!” on their ticket; if a majority of players vote “Ja!,” the elected President and Chancellor take the following actions to pass a new policy:
- The President draws 3 policies from a random deck.
- The President discards 1 policy and passes 2 to the Chancellor.
- The Chancellor discards 1 policy and enacts the final one as law.
If a fascist policy passes, the President gains a new power that she must use immediately. These include:
If Hitler is executed, the game ends immediately in a Liberal Victory.
